We hope you can help us.

We have a cane that according lore family lore is made from the flagpole that flew the Mexican Flag over the National Palace at the end of the Mexican -American War. The handle of the cane has the inscription:

My Flag

National Palace

<<< Mexico>>>

Presented by

Maj. Gen. Worth

We have found that Major General William J. Worth began his military career during the War of 1812. He was Commandant of Cadets at West Point1820-1828. He fought in Florida against the Seminole Indians, and was second in command to General Z. Taylor at the start of the Mexican War. He took part in several Actions during the War and is reportedly, the first to enter Mexico City,"where, by his own hand cut down the Mexican Flag that waved from the National Palace"

We are curious if family lore is correct and is the cane made from the flagpole that was on the National Palace. If this is so, is there a record of who received the canes and why?

Any help, information, or suggestions, or a path to follow will be greatly appreciated

Thank You

The Webster family & kin
