Family lore has it that one of my ancestors was over 40 when he left his family to fight in the Mecican War. He never came back. Assuming he was not just looking to get away from his family, (children were grown at this time) why would a man of that age fight in this war? Do you think he enlisted as a volunteer or is it more likely that he was career military? Your opinions are greatly wanted.
